Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement Now Available in Lakeway Area

Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System brings advanced technology to patients needing joint replacements

Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System is bringing innovative technology for robotic-assisted knee surgery to the Lakeway Area. This advancement in joint replacement surgery transforms the way many total knee replacements are performed.

Robotic-assisted knee replacement technology has had a significant impact on joint replacement procedures, including total knee replacements, which are expected to increase 189 percent in the U.S. by 2030. Morristown-Hamblen is implementing the MAKO SmartRobotics system, which allows surgeons to use advanced robotic technology for increased precision and accuracy.

The new technology enhances surgical treatment planning and can provide benefits for patients such as improved knee flexion, less pain, faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay.

“Our 3D CT allows our surgeons to create a personalized plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy before entering the operating room. During surgery, they can confirm the plan and make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic arm to execute that plan. It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology across the joint replacement service line to perform total knee and partial knee replacements,” said Justin Bigalke, Morristown-Hamblen director of surgical services.

“We are proud to bring advanced robotic technology to the Lakeway area,” said Gordon Lintz, chief administrative officer of Morristown-Hamblen. “This addition to our orthopedic service line further demonstrates our commitment to provide our community with excellent care.”

It is common for patients to try medication and other conservative treatments to treat their knee pain. If you haven’t experienced adequate relief with those treatment options, you may be a candidate for knee replacement and robotic-assisted technology.
