Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center Announces New Chief Nursing Officer

April Mount, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

KNOXVILLE, TENN. April Mount, MSN, RN, RN-BC, NEA-BC, has joined Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center as Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

Mount recently served as vice president of patient care services and CNO of two Georgia hospitals: Emory University Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital and Emory University Smyrna. She will serve on Fort Sanders Regional’s senior leadership team, assisting in the implementation of safety initiatives, staffing strategies and strategic plans. She will work closely with physicians and nursing staff to ensure continuation of the hospital’s patient-centered approach to care.

“April is a welcome addition to our Fort Sanders Regional team,” said Keith Altshuler, president and chief administrative officer. “Her experience as a nurse leader and as a reviewer for The Joint Commission will bring new insight and ideas. I look forward to seeing the effect her engaging leadership style has on our hospital.”

Mount brings more than 18 years of progressive experience as a nurse and nurse leader. She has been instrumental in achieving and maintaining Magnet designations for nursing excellence. In her most recent roles, Mount was responsible for the operating performance of two hospitals, along with supporting the advancement of nursing practices.

“I am proud to join Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center and be part of the outstanding staff that cares for the East Tennessee community,” Mount said. “While it is a challenging time for healthcare, it is also an exciting time where innovation will be key. I look forward to growing the Fort Sanders Regional team and enhancing the services the hospital provides.”

Mount is a member of the American Organization of Nursing Leadership (AONL) and the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses, and has achieved Medical/Surgical and Advanced Nurse Executive Certifications from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She received a Master of Science in Nursing degree with emphasis in nursing healthcare leadership from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Mercer University.
