Tatyana Grizzle, RN, Honored with DAISY Award

A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored recently with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days.

Congratulations to Tatyana, a nurse on 2 Dogwood, for being recognized with the DAISY award. Tatyana was nominated by a patient’s mother, and you can read her full nomination below:

“My daughter had emergency surgery and Tatyana was my daughter’s nurse the first night after surgery. When my daughter got to her room after her surgery, Tatyana’s initial evaluation of her was quite thorough. Maybe it is supposed to be this thorough but I was very impressed. My daughter was in extreme pain after her surgery as I am sure other surgery patients are as well.

When it became evident that the pain management that the surgeon had ordered was not going to be enough, Tatyana called the surgeon on call and got an additional med ordered. Tatyana was constantly checking on my daughter between taking care of other patients. If a machine started beeping, Tatyana was in the room before I had a chance to push the nurse call button.

If for some reason, I did have to push the call button she came to the room immediately. When I would leave my daughter’s room to go to the restroom, I would see Tatyana in the hall or another patient’s room. I would be willing to bet that Tatyana did not get to sit down that night. As I am writing this, I am wondering if she was able to take a break to eat.

As busy as Tatyana was, she was caring, kind and efficient the whole night. She even asked if there was anything she could do for me. It is difficult to put into words what Tatyana’s care of my daughter meant to me.”
