What is a mammogram?

A mammogram is a safe, low-dose X-ray that can locate very small breast tumors three to four years before a lump can actually be felt. The earlier the tumor is found, the higher the chance for a successful outcome. The Claiborne Breast Center is committed to helping women detect breast cancer in its earliest stages.

Serving the community since 2008, Claiborne Breast Center offers a complete range of breast health services. Our mammograms are performed by qualified technologists who can answer any questions you may have. We’re accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in both mammography and ultrasound, and our Claiborne Breast Center boasts a perfect FDA inspection record.

Your visit to Claiborne Breast Center

To help with your mammogram experience, follow these guidelines:

  • Wear a two-piece outfit that allows you to undress from the waist up.
  • Avoid wearing deodorant, powder, creams or lotions under your arms or on your breasts. These products can show up on the X-ray.
  • Bring information about the places and dates of any previous mammograms, biopsies, or other breast treatments that you have had, or ask us to order your records for you.
  • Bring photo ID and insurance card.
  • Bring the name, address, and phone number of your doctor or other health care provider.
  • If you need assistance, consider bringing a friend with you.
  • For questions or general information, call 423-526-2215.

Planning for “what ifs”

Not all breast lumps are malignant. Additional tests are sometimes necessary to determine the appropriate follow-up care. If indicated, we’ll recommend that you see your doctor and we’ll refer you to one of our specialists. We can also refer you to counselors and support groups who will help answer your questions and put you at ease.
