A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center recently received The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the “superhuman” efforts nurses give every day.

Congratulations to Ethan Howe, a nurse on 4 Riverstone. Ethan was nominated by a patient’s wife for the compassion and professionalism her husband received while in his care.

Ethan’s Nomination

“We do not know Ethan personally, this stay at the hospital was the first time we met him. There is something very special about this nurse, he went above and beyond his job duties. I never saw Ethan sitting down. He was always headed up and down the hallway.

My husband had a stroke and was brought to this hospital. Ethan was his nurse for the majority of our stay at Parkwest. We were there over a week. My husband, Ernie, was unable to use his right arm or leg at all, he also had trouble with one of his lungs which gave him a terrible cough. My husband had a set back and wasn’t even able to respond to us.

This didn’t stop Ethan from talking to him every time he entered the room. Ethan always showed him so much respect and told him what he was doing to him before he did it, and why he was doing it.

One day he gave my husband a great bath, washed him very well and even changed his sheets out completely for him, and that became ‘the norm.’ I have never seen a nurse take such good care of my family anywhere! Not only that, but Ethan also never failed to ask my daughters and I if we needed anything. He was so patient with my husband who was a little grouchy a lot of the time. Ethan also took the time out to explain and answer any questions that we had.

Ethan really cares about others and that’s apparent. I was very impressed with him and I feel he deserves a special award. Ethan is an extraordinary nurse!

We appreciate him so much. Thank you, Ethan!

P.S. My husband didn’t want to leave and go to Pat Neal Rehab, because he didn’t want to leave Ethan!”
