Celebrating DAISY Award Honoree: Ashley Storie, RN

We are honored to recognize Ashley Storie, RN, a compassionate and dedicated nurse at Morristown-Hamblen, who has been selected as a recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This meaningful award celebrates nurses who consistently go above and beyond in delivering exceptional care to patients and their families.

The DAISY Award was created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease. During his hospitalization, Patrick’s family was profoundly touched by the extraordinary compassion and clinical excellence shown by his nurses. In his memory, they established the DAISY Foundation to honor nurses who make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Ashley’s Nomination

Below is the heartfelt nomination submitted by a patient’s family member:

“Ashley is a true testament to compassion, servant leadership, and unwavering dedication to her patients. My elderly mother was on a ventilator for several days following a cardiac arrest, and during that time Ashley provided exceptional care — not only to my mother, but to our entire family.

She was consistently attentive to my mom’s needs, advocating for her and ensuring she was as comfortable as possible. Just as meaningful was the compassion she extended to us. In a moment filled with fear and uncertainty, Ashley offered reassurance, clarity, and kindness that went far beyond the expectations of her nursing role.

She deserves to be recognized for the extraordinary work she does and for the remarkable human being she chooses to be every single day.”

Ashley was celebrated in a special ceremony within her unit, where she received:

• A certificate of recognition
• A DAISY Award pin
• A hand-carved stone sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch”, created by artists in Zimbabwe to symbolize the profound impact nurses have on those they care for
