Covenant Health Roane has earned another “A” Hospital Safety Grade for Spring 2026 from The Leapfrog Group. This marks the eighth consecutive “A” grade the hospital has received.
What are The Leapfrog Group Safety Ratings?
The Leapfrog Group collects and reports data related to safety, quality and hospital performance. They assign safety grades based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that a hospital is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and chief executive officer of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”
Jeremy Biggs, chief administrative officer at Covenant Health Roane stated, “In a hospital our size, every person makes a visible difference—and this recognition belongs to each member of our team. Earning an ‘A’ safety grade again speaks to the pride we take in caring for our neighbors and the responsibility we feel to keep them safe. I’m grateful for the dedication, teamwork, and heart our staff brings to this community every day.”
Roane Earns “Straight A” Status
Roane is designated as a “Straight A” hospital, defined as hospitals that have earned an “A” grade for the spring and previous five or more grading rounds. Roughly 15.7% of eligible hospitals have earned this designation.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, injuries and infections that can lead to harm or death. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Covenant Health Roane deserves recognition for its unwavering focus on protecting patients and delivering safe care, earning an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for six consecutive cycles,” said Binder. “Sustaining this level of excellence over time shows a true, organization-wide commitment to making patient safety a top priority every single day.”
