We are honored to recognize Sabrina Bowens, RN, a compassionate and dedicated nurse at Morristown-Hamblen, who has been selected as a recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This meaningful award celebrates nurses who consistently go above and beyond in delivering exceptional care to patients and their families.
The DAISY Award was created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease. During his hospitalization, Patrick’s family was profoundly touched by the extraordinary compassion and clinical excellence shown by his nurses. In his memory, they established the DAISY Foundation to honor nurses who make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
Sabrina’s Nomination
“I would like to nominate Sabrina Bowen for the DAISY Award for her extraordinary compassion and commitment to patient-centered care. After completing a full 12-hour shift, Sabrina encountered an elderly homeless patient whose clothing was in extremely poor condition and had likely not been washed in years. Without hesitation, she took it upon herself to make sure this patient felt cared for with dignity and respect. Sabrina personally gathered the patient’s clothing and took them to a laundromat, washed and dried them, and then returned them to him all on her own time, after an already long and exhausting workday. This simple act of kindness had a profound impact. I can only imagine how meaningful it must have been for this vulnerable patient to put on clothing that was freshly cleaned, warm, and treated with such care. In that moment, Sabrina provided not just a basic need, but a sense of humanity, comfort, and worth. Her actions demonstrate the true essence of nursing: seeing the person beyond the patient, recognizing needs that aren’t spoken, and responding with compassion that goes far beyond job duties. The time, effort, and heart Sabrina poured into this act reflect the highest standards of the nursing profession. She exemplifies what the DAISY Award stands for- extraordinary, holistic, and deeply human care. Sabrina Bowen truly deserves recognition for the kindness she showed and the dignity she restored.”
