At Morristown-Hamblen, our long-standing commitment to cardiovascular services includes the opening of our Heart, Lung and Vascular services in the Northeast Tower in 2005. This milestone expanded access to specialized care, strengthened clinical capabilities and laid the foundation for today’s advanced cardiac program. 

Our commitment to expanding access continued with the opening of Morristown-Hamblen West Free-Standing Emergency Department in 2023. If a patient arrives experiencing symptoms of a possible cardiac event, the team provides rapid evaluation and stabilizing care, followed by immediate transfer to our main campus catheterization (cath) lab. This efficient process ensures patients receive advanced treatment as quickly as possible.

Our hospital has earned national recognition from the American Heart Association’s Mission Lifeline program, including STEMI Gold Plus and NSTEMI Gold awards. Advanced Interventional Cath Lab Capabilities 

Morristown-Hamblen is home to the Lakeway Area’s only interventional cardiac cath labs, providing rapid access to life-saving procedures such as angiography, emergency stenting and complex cardiac catheterization. These services allow patients to receive urgent, high-quality care without leaving the region. 

Our cath labs feature a suite of advanced technologies including: 

• Diagnostic Technologies: These tools help clinicians precisely evaluate heart conditions before intervention. We can quickly identify blockages, evaluate heart rhythm and electrical activity, and determine the best course of treatment with: 

• Real-time hemodynamic monitoring 

• Intracardiac pressure mapping 

• Electrophysiology measurements 

• Cineangiography 

• Vascular Access Technology: This creates a safe, accurate pathway to the heart’s vessels. 

• Ultrasound-Guided Vascular Access: Ultrasound technology improves precision during arterial access, reduces complications and allows interventional cardiologists to begin treatment more efficiently. 

• Interventional Treatment Technologies: These minimally invasive procedures are used to restore healthy blood flow and treat blocked arteries 

• Balloon Angioplasty: A balloon is inflated inside the artery to open a narrowed or blocked vessel. 

• Stenting/Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI): Following angioplasty, a stent is placed to help keep the artery open and maintain proper circulation. 

• Drug-Eluting Stents: These advanced stents slowly release medication to reduce inflammation and prevent tissue buildup. They are especially critical during heart attacks, restoring blood flow quickly and reducing the risk of re-narrowing. 

Cardiac Rehabilitation Supporting Long-Term Care 

Covenant Health also offers multiple accredited cardiac rehabilitation programs across the region, including services at Morristown-Hamblen. Patients receive guided exercise, education and support to safely rebuild strength, manage risk factors and maintain heart health after a cardiac event or procedure.
