We are honored to recognize Shelly McDowall, RN, a compassionate and dedicated nurse at Morristown-Hamblen, who has been selected as a recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This meaningful award celebrates nurses who consistently go above and beyond in delivering exceptional care to patients and their families.

The DAISY Award was created in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease. During his hospitalization, Patrick’s family was profoundly touched by the extraordinary compassion and clinical excellence shown by his nurses. In his memory, they established the DAISY Foundation to honor nurses who make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

“Shelly was extremely helpful when my husband was in the hospital. He never went without anything and she even made sure that I was ok as well. We could not have made it through our stay with our Shelly’s help. We are truly thankful for her.”

Honoring Shelly

Shelly was celebrated in a special ceremony within her unit, where she received:
• A certificate of recognition
• A DAISY Award pin
• A hand carved stone sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch,” created by artists in Zimbabwe to symbolize the profound impact nurses have on those they care for
