What does my child need while at the hospital?

Patients are encouraged to change into scrubs upon admission however they may choose to wear their current clothing. Peninsula does not provide laundry facilities. Patients are allowed one pair of shoes (to be worn during time outside) and one jacket/coat along with a reasonable amount of underwear.

Items not allowed on the unit (including, but not limited to):

  • Clothing with offensive designs or words
  • Clothing that is too loose or too tight
  • Clothing with drawstrings, hooded shirts, hoodies,
  • Jewelry
  • Electronics
  • Hygiene items
  • Make-Up

Belongings are limited for safety reasons. Staff will determine the appropriateness of each item. Inappropriate items will be sent home or stored and returned to your child upon discharge.

The hospital provides basic hygiene items. All patient belongings are searched in order to prevent dangerous items on the unit. Exceptions for belongings will be made based on treatment team decisions and require an order from the treating physician if the item meets the safety policy standards. The front desk cannot accept items that are not allowed on the unit without prior treatment team approval.
