Jim VanderSteeg is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Knoxville-based Covenant Health, a community-owned health system that provides comprehensive health services in Tennessee. Prior to being named President and CEO in April 2016, VanderSteeg was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Covenant Health. He joined the health system in 2007.
Prior to joining Covenant, Health VanderSteeg had extensive hospital and health system leadership experience with Memphis-based Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation, an integrated healthcare delivery system with hospitals and a network of outpatient facilities in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. He had executive leadership responsibilities for several of the organization’s member hospitals, and served as administrator and CEO of 706-bed Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis.
VanderSteeg graduated from Memphis State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and received a master’s degree in health care administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He is a Fellow in the Health Ethics Trust, the highest individual recognition given by the organization, and has been named to Becker’s national list of “Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know.”
