X-ray
An X-ray is an imaging test that uses invisible electromagnetic energy beams to make images of your internal tissues, bones, and organs on film. Standard X-rays are done for many reasons, including diagnosing tumors, infections, foreign bodies, or bone injuries. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) is used for bone density testing to measure the density and strength of bones.
MRI
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses powerful magnets and radio waves to produce detailed images of organs and tissues in your body. MRI is used to diagnose tumors, bleeding, injury, blood vessel diseases, and infection.
CT Imaging
Computed tomography — also known as a CAT scan or CT scan — is an imaging test that uses X-rays and a computer to make detailed images of your body, including bones, muscles, fat, and organs. Doctors can see your internal anatomy without surgery and can better diagnose and treat you. Low-dose CT scans can be used for lung cancer screening to provide high-quality images of the lungs with lower amounts of radiation than standard chest CT imaging.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within your body. Doctors can see pictures of internal organs as they function and can assess your blood flow.
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose a variety of diseases. As a patient, you ingest small amounts of radioactive materials, then special cameras detect the images and send them to a computer for interpretation.
PET
A positron emission tomography (PET) scan is a type of nuclear medicine imaging test. It is used to identify certain conditions by looking at your blood flow, metabolism, and oxygen use. PET services are available at Thompson Cancer Survival Center.
IVR
Interventional radiology (IVR) imaging is a medical sub-specialty of radiology, utilizing minimally-invasive guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases. In our Comprehensive Stroke Center, IVR is used to treat stroke and a variety of complex vascular conditions.
Bi-Plane Angiography
Using one system of IVR called bi-plane angiography, aneurysms are better visualized, accessed, and repaired using advanced minimally invasive procedures. Bi-plane technology improves imaging and resolution, creating comprehensive 3D views of the blood vessels in your brain.
To schedule an IVR appointment, please call 865-331-1381.
Mammography
Fort Sanders Regional also offers tomosynthesis, 3-D mammography that allows for more detailed images — even in women with dense breast tissue. Mammography services are available at the Thompson Comprehensive Breast Center.
