Letter From President
Welcome to Cumberland Medical Center
Welcome to Cumberland Medical Center. As your community hospital and a proud member of Covenant Health, we are committed to providing exceptional care to the people of Crossville and the surrounding Cumberland Plateau.
For more than 75 years, Cumberland Medical Center has served as a trusted source of healthcare for our region. Today, our hospital combines advanced medical technology with compassionate caregivers to ensure that patients can receive high-quality care close to home.
Many of the services available at Cumberland Medical Center are not commonly found in communities of our size. Our hospital provides advanced heart care, including cardiac catheterization and emergency heart attack treatment. Patients also have access to radiation oncology for cancer care, comprehensive women’s services including obstetrics and gynecology, nephrology (kidney) services, orthopedic care including a total joint replacement program, urology services, and specialized wound care with hyperbaric therapy. These services allow patients and families to receive high-quality specialty care without traveling far from the Cumberland Plateau.
Our commitment to quality and patient safety is reflected in the recognitions we have earned. Cumberland Medical Center has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Award, recognizing excellence in stroke care and rapid treatment for patients experiencing stroke symptoms. We are also proud to hold the Upper Cumberland region’s only Gold certification as a Cribs for Kids® National Safe Sleep Hospital, highlighting our dedication to infant safety and education for families. In addition, Cumberland Medical Center has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, reflecting our strong focus on patient safety. CMC was also recognized by Forbes as a Top Hospital, further demonstrating the quality of care delivered by our physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals.
Cumberland Medical Center has deep roots in this region. The hospital opened in 1950, inspired by the vision of Dr. May Cravath Wharton, a pioneering physician who began caring for the people of rural Cumberland County in the early 1920s. Her dedication to bringing healthcare to this area helped lay the foundation for the hospital we know today.
Today, Cumberland Medical Center is licensed for 189 beds and supported by more than 650 employees and a medical staff of more than 70 physicians representing a wide range of specialties. Our inpatient care is provided by experienced hospitalist physicians, our intensive care unit is supported by critical care specialists, and our emergency department provides around-the-clock physician coverage to ensure timely care when it matters most.
Cumberland Medical Center is made possible by the physicians, nurses, employees, and volunteers who serve here every day. Their dedication and compassion help ensure that patients and families receive exceptional care close to home.
We are honored to serve the people of the Cumberland Plateau and remain committed to advancing the health and well-being of this region for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Jason Pilant, DHA, MBA, FACHE
