A Community United for the Cause – Northview Academy Recognized

In partnership with the Sevier County School System, LeConte Medical Center and the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation partnered to help raise awareness in Sevier County. From providing free education about breast cancer to the community to raising funds to provide free mammograms, Paint the Mountains Pink and the Sevier County School System are on a mission to save lives.

During the 2023 high school football season, all five Sevier County School System high schools held a Pink Out game to raise funds and promote awareness. Together, the five schools raised $14,888 during October, which helped provide nearly 50 free mammograms for women of Sevier County.

The Paint the Mountains Pink Campaign is proud to announce that 100% of the funds raised stay in Sevier County to help ensure the women of Sevier County have access to annual mammograms. In 2023 alone, $35,588 was raised, with 42% of the funds being raised by the Sevier County School System.

Northview Academy Raises the Bar

In partnership with Kona Ice of Sevier County, the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation and LeConte Medical Center agreed to provide free Kona Ice to the high school that raised the most money. Northview Academy was recognized for raising the bar in 2023 with $3,316 raised, which provided over 11 free mammograms to women in Sevier County.

Throughout their fundraising efforts, the cheerleading team and the LeConte Sports Medicine students sold customized Paint the Mountain Pink t-shirts and popcorn vouchers. With 1 in 8 women being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and mammograms alone finding nearly 85-90% of breast cancers, it is clear that Northview Academy and the rest of the high schools in Sevier County made a significant impact on the community.

A Thankful Foundation

While the mission of Paint the Mountain Pink and the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation is to support the healthcare needs of Seiver County, the mission is only possible with support from the community. The Foundation and Paint the Mountains Pink campaign is governed by a volunteer board of directors that serves without compensation. Dolly Parton, one of the many babies Dr. Thomas delivered, serves as honorary chairperson. The Foundation depends on donations and grants from individuals, businesses, and charitable foundations to achieve its goal of helping LeConte Medical Center provide excellent health care to those who live, work, and visit Sevier County.
