Keeping Athletes in the Game
LeConte Medical Center’s sports medicine program offers a multidisciplinary approach to care for athletes, providing the East Tennessee area with certified and licensed athletic trainers. Our team includes physicians, athletic trainers, physical and occupational therapists, and speech/language pathologists who work with physicians to prevent, evaluate, manage and treat sports-related injuries and medical conditions. These professionals provide support at sports practices, games, tournaments, community events and sport tourism venues.
Since 2001, LeConte Sports Medicine has provided certified athletic trainers to cover all sports at each of Sevier County’s five high schools: Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, Pigeon Forge High School, Seymour High School, Sevier County High School and Northview Academy. Certified athletic trainers are experts in preventing illness and injury in active people and have special training to restore function to injured patients.

Student Sports Medicine Program
LeConte Sports Medicine is excited to offer a student athletic trainer program that will help introduce high school students into a career path in sports medicine. Involvement in this program allows the student to see sports medicine in action and gain a deeper understanding into the profession. This program can help the student gain invaluable experience and assist with future careers in the health field.

Event Medicine
In 2016, LeConte Sports Medicine was a founding partner of The Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge. As the exclusive healthcare provider, LeConte provides athletic trainers to provide full-time coverage for athletes competing at the baseball complex.
In 2021, LeConte Sports Medicine was the official medical provider for the TSSAA State Golf Championship.
School Athlete Health Portal
LeConte Sports Medicine has partnered with Aktivate to provide athletes with a secure health portal. Through the Aktivate portal, athletes can complete required forms for athletic competition through Sevier County School System.

Event Medicine Coordinator
Candace Hoffmann serves as the Event Medicine Coordinator for Covenant Health Sports Medicine. After graduating high school in Ogallala, NE, she moved to Colorado. She attended Vail Community College, where she earned her first EMT certification and embarked on career with the Eagle County Ambulance Service and Vail Valley Medical Center. After 12 years of working in the Vail area and seeking to be closer to family, she later relocated to Iowa. This move allowed her to raise her family while continuing her commitment to healthcare. She then moved further east to Tennessee, where she currently serves as an EMT and the Event Medicine Coordinator for Covenant Health. She efficiently manages events and coordinates schedules, ensuring that the team delivers exceptional care and support to the community. Her extensive background in emergency services has equipped her with strong organizational and communication skills, enabling her to effectively manage coordination between various event centers. She enjoys spending her free time hiking in the Smoky Mountains and kayaking in the various lakes and rivers. Her journey through the fields of emergency medical services and event coordination has shaped her values and commitment to health and wellness. She is passionate about making a positive impact in the community, whether through emergency care, engaging events or outdoor activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Eli Gass
Sevier County High School Athletic Trainer
Eli Gass serves as the athletic trainer for Sevier County High School, providing high-quality healthcare to all student-athletes who wear purple and white. A graduate of East Tennessee State University (2020), Eli worked with the university’s football and baseball programs as a student intern while studying exercise science. This is where he found his love for healthcare, human anatomy, and patient interaction. Eli then went on to graduate with his Master of Athletic Training at Appalachian State University (2023) where he worked in a variety of settings that helped develop him into a well-rounded athletic trainer. With a passion for personal-patient care, Eli specializes in one-on-one treatment for student-athletes, including injury evaluation, rehabilitation, and preventative planning. Eli also enjoys having student helpers who are interested in the medical field because he can be a guiding figure to teach and provide knowledgeable experiences. Eli hopes to continue to grow the interest of young student athletes in the athletic training profession, along with all other medical professions. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Eli enjoys spending time with his wife and loves to be outdoors either hunting, fishing, or catching an Atlanta Braves game.

Huntur Orwick
Sevier County Junior High Athletic Trainer
Huntur Orwick serves as an athletic trainer for Sevier County Junior High School and an associate athletic trainer for Sevier County High School, where he is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare to student-athletes for grades six through twelve. Huntur is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a degree in athletic training (2020) and earned a Master of Sports Administration in 2023 while working as an athletic trainer for a local high school. With a passion for bettering his clinical and educational expertise, Huntur works toward educating individuals about athletic training and the many services that they can provide. He also enjoys inspiring and teaching the next generation of healthcare professionals. Huntur is dedicated to providing the best one-on-one care for injury diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Huntur enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, spending time outdoors and having conversations about Illinois sports.

Kaitlin Phillips
Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Athletic Trainer
Kaitlin Phillips serves as the athletic trainer at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School and is the head healthcare provider for the student-athletes. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor in Sports Medicine. She chose sports medicine while in high school at Gatlinburg-Pittman because she tore her ACL and did her rehabilitation with the school’s athletic trainer. Kaitlin is committed to providing the highest quality of healthcare for her student-athletes. Kaitlin lives on a farm with her husband and two boys. She enjoys gardening and homesteading. She also enjoys hiking and being outdoors. Her children will also attend Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, and she is looking forward to being their athletic trainer. She hopes to encourage the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Jordan Lawson
Seymour High School Athletic Trainer
Jordan Lawson is a dedicated athletic trainer and educator with extensive experience in sports medicine and health science education. Currently serving as the athletic trainer for Seymour High School, Jordan is committed to supporting student-athletes with expert care and injury prevention strategies. In addition to his role at Seymour High School, he also educates the next generation of health science professionals, imparting knowledge and skills to students pursuing careers in this vital field. Jordan has over five years of experience as an athletic trainer with Covenant Health Sports Medicine, honing his expertise in sports injuries, rehabilitation, and emergency care. He holds a Bachelor of Athletic Training from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the same institution. Outside of his professional commitments, Jordan enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Kaitlyn, friends and family. He also enjoys getting out on the golf course.
Daniel Lawrence
Seymour Junior High Athletic Trainer
Daniel is an experienced athletic trainer who has spent over a decade dedicated to providing high-quality care to athletes of all ages. He is also a proud graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. Daniel earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training before pursuing a Master of Education degree at Campbell University. While completing his graduate studies, Daniel served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, with primary responsibilities for the men’s soccer and women’s swimming programs, where he honed his skills in athlete healthcare and rehabilitation. For the past eight years, Daniel has been a valued member of the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans sports medicine team. During his tenure, he worked closely with local high schools, providing athletic training services tailored to the needs of young athletes. Daniel spent five years at Franklinton High School, working with students in grades nine through twelve, and three years at Northlake Christian School, where he gained valuable experience supporting student-athletes from kindergarten through twelfth grade. This diverse experience has equipped him with a unique ability to work with athletes across a wide range of age groups and skill levels. Outside of his professional life, Daniel is an avid New Orleans Saints fan who enjoys spending time with his wife, Catherine, and their two children, Carter and Drew.

Garret TenBarge
Pigeon Forge High School Athletic Trainer
Garret TenBarge serves as the athletic trainer at Pigeon Forge High School, where he also works as a high school educator specializing in health sciences and athletic training. A graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, Garret combines his knowledge and experience to provide exceptional care to student-athletes while also inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Committed to advancing the field of sports medicine, Garret is known for his dedication to patient care and his ability to empower athletes to achieve their goals both on and off the field.

Haley Wyatt
Northview Academy Athletic Trainer
Haley Wyatt serves as the athletic trainer at Northview Senior Academy, dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare to student-athletes. A graduate of both Muskingum University, where she earned a Bachelor of Athletic Training (2019), and Concordia University-Chicago, where she earned a Master in Applied Exercise Science (2021), Haley is committed to continuous learning and professional development. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Athletic Training degree from A.T. Still University, with an expected graduation in May 2025. With a deep passion for advancing her clinical and educational expertise, Haley specializes in delivering comprehensive patient care. Her particular area of interest lies in the intersection of sports medicine and mental health, focusing on the mental and emotional aspects of recovery and performance. Haley’s commitment to her patients ensures they receive the highest level of support for both their physical and mental well-being.

Matt Brannon
Morristown Landing Athletic Trainer
Matt Brannon serves as the site athletic trainer at Morristown Landing, a community center that offers a variety of recreational facilities and services to members and guests. Matt completed his undergraduate degree at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado and later attended Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia where he earned a Master of Science in Athletic Training. Matt is onsite five days a week to respond to any medical emergencies and events where medical services are needed. He, along with other members of the Covenant Health Sports Medicine team, also provides sports medicine services for sponsored tournaments and athletic events held at the Morristown Landing. In addition to daily medical services, Matt frequently consults with members and guests who have current or past medical histories that prevent them from starting their journeys to better health and fitness. Matt is uniquely placed to assist members and guests with care concerns related to their health goals. Matt’s experiences in secondary school, collegiate athletics and various professions help him understand the specific needs of his patients and allow him to tailor a treatment plan specific to the individual.
