Lenoir City, Tenn. – October 2025Fort Loudoun Medical Center has been recognized by the Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) with three Zero Harm Awards for 2024, honoring the hospital’s exceptional commitment to patient safety and infection prevention.

The awards are part of THA’s statewide initiative to celebrate hospitals that have achieved zero healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in key clinical areas over the past calendar year. The program supports THA’s broader goal of eliminating preventable harm events across Tennessee hospitals.

“These awards reflect the dedication of our entire care team to providing safe, high-quality care for every patient, every time,” said Connie Martin, President and Chief Administrative Officer of Fort Loudoun Medical Center. “Achieving zero harm in these critical areas is a testament to our culture of safety and our relentless focus on doing what’s best for our patients.”

For 2024, Fort Loudoun Medical Center received Zero Harm Awards in the following categories:

  • CAUTI (Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections) – Critical Care
  • CLABSI (Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections) – Hospital-wide
  • MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) – Hospital-wide

CAUTIs occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract through a catheter, leading to infection. CLABSIs happen when germs enter the bloodstream via a central line, a tube placed in a large vein to deliver medication or fluids. MRSA infections are caused by a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to many antibiotics and can lead to serious complications, especially in hospitalized patients with weakened immune systems.

According to THA, achieving zero infections in these categories demonstrates a hospital’s strong commitment to eliminating harm, saving lives, and reducing unnecessary healthcare costs.

In addition to Fort Loudoun, other Covenant Health hospitals earning Zero Harm Awards are Claiborne Medical Center, Tazewell; Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville; Leconte Medical Center, Sevierville; Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville; Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge; Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, Morristown; Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville; and Covenant Health Roane, Harriman.
