Our latest DAISY Award winners Elizabeth Cannon and Kristen McCarter, both RNs in our women’s services department, not only took excellent care of their patient but also her husband. Elizabeth’s and Kristen’s patient nominated them for this award because they provided exceptional clinical care for her and her new baby as well as the patient’s husband who experienced a “widowmaker” heart attack (a 100% blockage in the left anterior descending artery) during the family’s time at Fort Sanders Regional.
Knowing that the family’s baby was in critical care and that there were health concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Elizabeth and Kristen worked with Fort Sanders Regional emergency staff to ensure the safest environment for the patient, her baby and her husband. In the patient’s nomination, she says, “I would not have been able to handle these situations if it were not for the care I received from not just Kristen and Elizabeth, but from every staff member on the floor. I can never repay these women for saving my husband’s life, but I can nominate them for an award that they deserve.” Thank you Elizabeth and Kristen for your compassion, clinical expertise and commitment to excellence!
