A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored recently with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the superhuman efforts nurses give every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days.

Congratulations to Sarah a nurse on Parkwest’s 4 Riverstone, for being recognized with the DAISY Award. Sarah was nominated by a patient who was appreciative of her support and how she thought outside the box to assist her.

Sarah’s Nomination

“Sarah was absolutely phenomenal! She took her time to go over everything and was very detailed. She checked in on me frequently and showed thinking outside the box to help ease my itch with cold wash rags. That helped soothe the welts until I could get another injection. In ever needed a thing as she was always popping in and checking on me. I asked Sarah how long she’d been a nurse, and to my surprise she said she’d just recently graduated. I would have never guessed it!

The comfort and ease that she showed by the bedside was amazing. She even started a new IV port for me as the one in my hand hurt with every move. She definitely is an asset to this hospital and will be a fantastic leader as she grows in her knowledge, skills and ability. Thank you, Sarah, for being a light during a very dark time.”
