Cumberland Medical Center Sleep Disorder Center is celebrating 15 consecutive years of accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep
Medicine. The Center has maintained accreditation since 2010, demonstrating its commitment to providing high-quality care for people who are experiencing sleep problems.
The CMC Sleep Disorder Center offers diagnostic and therapeutic services for conditions related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy, among others.
“Quality sleep is fundamental to overall health,” said Hina Kouser, MD, medical director at CMC Sleep Disorder Center and Lab. “That’s why we’ve built our sleep center around a patient-first approach that combines advanced diagnostics with personalized treatment plans.
“The accreditations reflect our commitment to clinical excellence,” she continued, “but what truly sets us apart is how we partner with each patient to address their unique sleep challenges and improve their quality of life—because we believe a good night’s sleep is the best medicine.”
To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed the standards for professional healthcare designated by the AASM. These standards address several core areas:
- Personnel
- Facility and equipment
- Policies and procedures
- Data acquisition
- Patient care
- Quality assurance
Additionally, the sleep center must have clearly stated goals that include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Cumberland Medical Center Sleep Disorder Center on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President Anita V. Shelgikar, MD. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, reflecting a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered services that help people sleep better and live healthier lives.”
The AASM is a medical society for physicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers, the AASM advances sleep care and enhances sleep health to improve lives. There are more than 2,300 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.
