Cassie’s Nomination
“Cassie Reed always provides excellent care to our patients, but there is one case in particular that really sets her above the rest. Our unit had an admission from juvenile detention in November 2025. This patient had been acutely psychotic for an extended period of time prior to coming to our unit. He was extremely paranoid to the point of being nonverbal and refusing to eat food that was not prepackaged.
Prior to his arrival, Cassie prepared a plan for his treatment, including utilization of the adult mood unit and their day room prior to transitioning him to the adolescent unit. She met with him daily despite his unwillingness to engage initially. As his symptoms improved, she engaged him in lengthy discussions regarding his diagnosis, risk factors and long-term prognosis with and without medication compliance.
He grew to trust Cassie greatly and responded well to her approach. Not only did she provide excellent therapy services, but she went above and beyond for him. Cassie coordinated with his family for special visitations and came in on her days off to be a part of meetings and care for him. Additionally, she worked with his lawyer to facilitate changes to his court hearing date and gently transition him out of the hospital. I was blown away by Cassie’s compassion and care for this patient, and I truly believe that she made a big difference to his life.”
