Parkwest Medical Center and Peninsula Behavioral Health, both part of Covenant Health, are hosting the 6th annual Survivors of Suicide Loss Day to provide a supportive space for individuals and families who have lost a loved one to suicide.
The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and registration is available at treatedwell.com/Survivor. The gathering of support will take place at Parkwest Medical Center, located at 9352 Park West Blvd.
“Covenant Health is dedicated to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of our community,” Covenant Health President and CEO Jim VanderSteeg said. “Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is an important part of that commitment, as it provides a compassionate space for those grieving. We encourage anyone who has experienced this type of loss to join us and connect with others on a similar journey.”
The session will feature speakers Dr. Bree Conklin of Magnolia Harbor Carefarm, a local therapeutic program for traumatic grief and animal sanctuary; Mary King, a suicide loss survivor from Scott County; and Shannah Etherton, a 911 dispatcher and suicide loss survivor from Jefferson County. All three will share their personal experiences and offer encouragement to those navigating life after a loss. Attendees also can participate in a therapeutic art activity and view the annual Survivors Day video produced by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The event is designed to offer connection, hope and healing to anyone affected by suicide loss. It is open to all, regardless of when the loss occurred, and aims to bring together a community of survivors who understand the unique challenges of grief related to suicide.
