Why I Chose Covenant Health
Standing six foot, five inches tall, Tim Boyd of Lenoir City has always been involved in sports – particularly basketball. Boyd chose to have his total knee replacement at the Parkwest Joint Center – The Retreat after pampering an injured knee for 20 years.
“I see many patients like Tim who have protected their knee for years trying to avoid having surgery,” said Dr. Hal Cates, Medical Director of the Parkwest Joint Center. “The reality is that total joint replacements have come so far through many years of research and design. After getting a new knee, my patients are amazed with just how much better their new joint improves their quality of life.”
The Retreat is a specifically structured program that assists patients with total hip or total knee replacements though their hospital experience. After receiving carefully coordinated care from medical specialists, Boyd was able to go home after a three-night stay.
Just a few months after surgery, Boyd is seeing great results with his new knee. He is now returning to the basketball court just in time to teach his defensive moves to his 13-year- old son, Jonathan – who is following in his father’s footsteps by making the North Middle School varsity basketball team.
“It’s so rewarding to see how far my mobility has come since getting my new knee,” Boyd said. “I highly recommend anyone who needs to have a total knee, do it sooner rather than later. Life is so much better when you’re in the game rather than on the sidelines. My experience at Parkwest certainly has me back in the game.”
