Sleep Study

Some patients may require a sleep study to better evaluate their sleep disorders. These studies are only offered to patients referred by their primary care physician, so talk to your doctor about your sleep challenges and ask for a referral to Roane Medical.

Sleep studies usually are recommended for people who suffer from sleep apnea, pathologic sleepiness like narcolepsy, or nocturnal behaviors such as sleepwalking or dream enactment.

A complete sleep study typically requires one to two nights of sleep monitoring. Daytime testing may also be required. Your evaluation will measure factors during your sleep such as:

  • Brain wave activity
  • Heart rate
  • Eye movement
  • Oxygen levels

The Roane Medical Sleep Center staff wants you to feel as comfortable as possible during your sleep study, so a cozy atmosphere is provided, and a sleep technician will administer continuous monitoring.

After completion of the sleep study, our physician will review your results and may refer you to other specialists as needed. Typical referrals include dentistry, otolaryngology (ENT), or weight management.
