Congratulations to Taynia Thornton with our Volunteer Services team, for being presented with a BEE Award. The BEE Award is short for Being Exceptional Every day which is aimed at celebrating our support service caregivers. It’s a compliment to the DAISY award for RN’s and LPN’s because, as we all know, you can’t have a DAISY without a BEE and vice versa!

Looking for Opportunities to Connect

In her many roles with customer service, Volunteer Services operations, oversight with our Hospitality Houses or coordinating events for our We Care program, Taynia Thornton looks for opportunities to make genuine connections.  And it’s one of those interactions that led to Taynia’s nomination and subsequent honor..

“Taynia exudes care and compassion. When it was brought to her attention that we are from out of town (Crossville) and my wife was there for a surgical procedure, she came to our room with the offer of a stay in one of the hospitality houses. Since the surgery was likely in the afternoon and requiring another night stay, I now had the option to stay across the street and not drive when exhausted and in the dark. She met me at the house and explained in detail what was at my disposal. And every minute she spent with me, Taynia was warm and upbeat. You could tell how much she enjoyed helping people. She thoroughly enjoys what she does, and it is never merely a job. It’s a joy.”

Servant Leadership

Methodist’s Chief Support Officer, Jay Shepherd, delivered the award and remarked, “Taynia, you are one-of-a-kind and truly epitomize what it means to be a servant leader. We are so thankful to have you as a member of our MMC family, and I can think of no better example for the award as a BEE honoree!”

Taynia Thornton is surrounded by MMC leaders who surprised her during the special presentation.

Submit a BEE Nomination

Methodist Medical Center implemented The BEE (Being Exceptional Every day) Award to recognize employees who aren’t RNs and LPNs (they can be nominated for The DAISY Award). A DAISY can’t survive without a BEE and a BEE can’t survive without a DAISY!

Please say thank you by sharing your story of how our employee made a difference you will never forget!
