Your health is key to longevity and quality of life. At Covenant Health, we make preventive care simple and accessible, so you can focus on what matters most. Our expert team is here, ready to provide advanced, local and convenient care that fits your life.

Every man needs a yearly physical. It’s your health baseline and a chance to catch small issues before they become big problems. Follow these guidelines to stay on top of your health.

In Your 20s: Establish Your Health Baseline

Getting a health baseline while you’re young helps you understand changes and needs as you age. Start with these basic steps:

  • Yearly physical
  • Blood pressure check
  • Cholesterol check (age 20 if at risk; otherwise start at age 35)

In Your 30s: Create Sustainable Habits

Creating sustainable habits is vital at this point in your life. Setting realistic and obtainable wellness goals will help you maintain good health for the rest of your life.

Along with the previously recommended screenings, also add:

  • Diabetes screening (if at risk)

In Your 40s: Regular Health Screenings

By now, you’ve probably noticed some differences in your body over time. Stick with your routine screenings and consult your physician on any significant changes.

Along with the previously recommended screenings, also add:

  • Colorectal Screening (Colonoscopy) begin at age 45

In Your 50s: Preventive Measures and Lifestyle

At this point, you’re a pro when it comes to preventive screenings. However, risks begin to rise for cancer and other health factors, so it is very important to take precautions.

Along with the previously recommended screenings, also add:

  • Prostate cancer screening (individual decision-making recommended until age 75)
  • Lung cancer screening (if you meet smoking history criteria) *

In Your 60s & Older: Maintain Your Quality of Life

Staying healthy and on top of your procedures and appointments will give you the greatest chance to maintain the best quality of life.

Along with the previously recommended screenings, also add:

  • AAA Screening (if you meet smoking history criteria)

The annual low dose CT screening is recommended for adults aged 50-80 with a history of smoking 20 or more packs of cigarettes in a year. This includes people who currently smoke or who have quit within the past 15 years.

Anyone aged 65-75 who has ever smoked is recommended to have a one-time AAA screening.

Be the Best Version of Yourself

Preventive care goes beyond screenings. Healthy habits keep your body strong and your mind sharp. Here are five of the biggest health tips we recommend to patients:

  1. Sleep Well: Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep each night to help regulate and support your mood, hormones and brain function.
  1. Manage Stress: Stress can harm your body and mind. If life feels overwhelming, reach out for help. Call 988 if you have thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
  1. Fuel Your Body: Give your body the power it needs to thrive. Choose foods packed with nutrients, and if you’re unsure where to start, your primary care doctor can create a personalized plan that fits your goals and lifestyle.
  1. Stay Active: Aim for 150 minutes of moderate activity each week, plus strength training twice a week. Join one of Covenant Health’s Wellness Centers to keep moving.
  1. Quit Tobacco: Smoking, vaping and chewing tobacco increase risks of heart disease, cancer, and lung issues. Learn more about Covenant Health’s smoking cessation programs
