Paint the Mountains Pink: Donations Support Free Mammograms in Sevier County

Early detection saves lives. Thanks to Paint the Mountains Pink, more women in Sevier County are getting the screenings they need, regardless of their financial situation. 

For more than a decade, Paint the Mountains Pink has provided free mammograms to uninsured or low-income women. This ensures financial barriers never stand in the way of early cancer detection. Powered by donors to the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation, the program has helped more than 500 women access free mammograms.  

“Paint the Mountains Pink shows the power of philanthropy at work,” says Chip Bryant, Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer at Covenant Health. “When our community comes together to support this program, it means more women have access to early detection, regardless of their financial situation. That generosity truly saves lives.” 

Philanthropy at Work 

Paint the Mountains Pink is only possible with community support. Whether by raising awareness or raising funds, grassroots involvement is what helps this program thrive. 

Local high schools help spread awareness through “Pink Out” football games. Fans wear pink and players sport custom shirts on the field to highlight the impact in their community. Other initiatives include tabling events and t-shirt sales where every dollar raised helps a local woman access this essential health screening. 

All these efforts spark conversations about prevention, screening, and the importance of catching breast cancer early. 

Technology Advancing Care 

While giving fuels access, technology elevates the level of care. Covenant Health LeConte has invested in advanced breast cancer detection equipment, giving women who live or work in Sevier County access to some of the most sophisticated diagnostic tools available. This combination of philanthropic generosity paired with cutting-edge technology means more women can access screenings, more cancers can be detected earlier, and more lives can be saved.
