Men living with symptoms of an enlarged prostate now have access to advanced treatment at Covenant Health’s Methodist Medical Center.
Methodist is expanding urology services with Aquablation therapy. This innovative treatment helps people with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. Combined with the expertise of board-certified urologist Michael Douglas, DO, this new technology offers patients another path to better health and improved quality of life.
How Does Aquablation Work?
Innovation in healthcare should make life better for patients. Aquablation is one more way Methodist is doing exactly that.
Aquablation uses advanced imaging and robotic technology to help physicians treat enlarged prostate tissue with precision. The procedure is minimally invasive and provides an option for patients wanting an alternative to long-term medication or surgery.
“Many men wait years before seeking help because they assume their symptoms are something they have to live with. They don’t. We now have excellent treatment options available locally, and Aquablation is helping us expand the care we can offer to our patients,” explains Dr. Douglas.
Who Should Consider Aquablation?
BPH is common as men age. Symptoms include:
- Frequent trips to the bathroom
- Interrupted sleep
- A weak urine stream
- Difficulty emptying the bladder
These symptoms may seem like a normal part of getting older, but they can have a major impact on daily life.
“I offer a personalized treatment approach for each patient based on their needs and goals to treat their condition,” says Dr. Douglas. “Aquablation is an exciting treatment option to improve urinary function with minimal impact on quality of life, especially sexual function.”
Our Expert Team Behind the Technology
At Methodist, technology is only part of the story. The other part is the people behind it.
Dr. Douglas brings extensive experience and specialized training to every patient he treats. As a board-certified urologist with Covenant Health’s Urology Specialists of Oak Ridge, he cares for patients with a wide range of urologic conditions. His clinical interests include minimally invasive treatments for BPH, kidney stone disease, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, vasectomy procedures and cancers affecting the urinary and reproductive systems.
His focus on personalized care helps patients understand their options and feel confident in their treatment decisions.
“Every patient is different. The right treatment starts with listening to the patient, understanding how symptoms affect their daily life and creating a plan that fits their goals. Aquablation gives us another advanced tool to help men find relief and return to living life without constantly thinking about their symptoms.”
