When Linda Outwater arrived at Covenant Health Therapy Center – Morristown, she was recovering from a total knee replacement and dealing with arthritis and a Baker’s cyst. Her knee instability had made everyday activities like climbing stairs feel risky and unreliable. She was limping and relying on coping mechanisms that weren’t helping.
From the beginning, Linda felt she was in good hands with Covenant Health. Her first impression of the therapy center was that “kind professionals worked there.” That impression held true throughout her therapy. With guidance from our expert team, Linda embarked on a personalized recovery plan that helped her find stability again.
An Individualized Therapy Plan
Each day, the team asked Linda what she wanted to achieve and tailored her therapy accordingly. Her sessions extended beyond the therapy room and included work on stairways, in the upstairs gym and even outdoors. She appreciated how the therapists demonstrated exercises and offered clear and constructive feedback that made a real difference.
“Sometimes it was visual and sometimes auditory, but always spot on,” she said.
She recalled a session where she practiced stair climbing. The very next day, bumblebees stung her husband multiple times, and he needed urgent help. Thanks to her progress in therapy, Linda confidently navigated stairs, retrieved medications and cared for him. She knew she would not have been able to do it just weeks earlier.
“Linda reminded all of us why we do this work. She showed up with courage on the hard days and kept pushing forward even when it wasn’t easy. Watching her regain her strength, her independence and her ability to care for the people she loves was incredibly meaningful,” said Dawn Williams, DPT, ATC, CLT-LANA, therapist at Covenant Health Therapy Center – Morristown.
Continuing Her Progress with On-Site Athletic Training Support

After graduating from physical therapy, Linda continued her wellness journey at Morristown Landing with athletic trainer, Matt Brannon, ATC. Brannon provides support for patients who have finished formal therapy but still want guided exercises and structured progression.
Linda praised the opportunity to work with Brannon, sharing that he helped her maintain momentum as she transitioned out of therapy. His expertise allowed her to keep improving her strength and mobility while feeling supported in a familiar environment.
Mobility and Strength for a Meaningful Life
Linda can now hike, garden, stand on one foot and even crawl on the floor. Most importantly to her, she can now care for others again.
Just one day after completing therapy, Linda traveled to Florida to help her 97‑year‑old mother recover from surgery. She credits the team at Covenant Health Therapy Center – Morristown and athletic training at Morristown Landing for making that possible.
“My mom needs me, and I need to be at my best. The team made that happen,” Linda said. “I can act as a caregiver and not a patient. I can participate in things I enjoy that make me who I am.”
Linda encourages others to approach physical therapy and follow-up training with energy and commitment, knowing the payoff will exceed the effort.
