Fall Grades for Patient Safety Released

KNOXVILLE, TENN. – Covenant Health Fort Sanders Regional recently earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit that sets the standards for measuring excellence in patient safety performance. This national distinction reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing excellent patient care.

“It is an honor to receive LeapFrog’s ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade – it reflects the hard work our physicians and staff put in every day to care for our patients,” said Keith Altshuler, president and chief administrative officer. “This is our third consecutive ‘A’ grade – which further reinforces Fort Sanders Regional’s legacy of more than 100 years to provide safe, compassionate care.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.

Fort Sanders Regional is one of two hospitals in Knox County to hold an ‘A’ rating this fall.

“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Fort Sanders Regional made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
