An older man walks on a treadmill while a healthcare professional in blue scrubs stands beside him, smiling and adjusting the machine in a bright, modern medical facility.

Covenant Health Claiborne  is growing and bringing more advanced care, new technology and trusted expertise to the community. Recently we expanded our pulmonary services, giving patients access to important lung and heart support without leaving home.

“We strive every day to grow Covenant Health Claiborne and add equipment and services to better serve our community,” says Chief Administrative Officer Gordon Lintz. “Our friends and families live here, and we want to provide excellent care for them.”

Technology for Better Breathing

In 2025, Covenant Health purchased new Sentry Suite pulmonary function equipment. This technology gives providers clearer, more accurate information about how well a patient’s lungs are working. Pulmonary function testing helps diagnose conditions such as:

  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Other lung conditions

One of the most common tests — spirometry — measures how much air a person can breathe in and out and how quickly they can empty their lungs. These tests are simple, safe and important tools for understanding lung health.

Claiborne respiratory manager Jessie Roberts explains, “This equipment is the newest technology and provides information that can help physicians determine how your lungs are functioning and what type of treatment you may need.”

Strengthening Heart and Lung Health Through Rehabilitation

We have also expanded our cardiac rehabilitation program to include cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. This medically supervised program helps patients regain strength after a heart event, lung condition or surgery.

The program includes personalized exercise plans and education to help patients improve their daily function. It’s designed to support long-term health.

Our team recently received certification as a Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab (ICR) program. The Pritikin model focuses with the patient on three key pillars:

  • Regular Exercise: Increasing strength and cardiovascular endurance
  • Heart-Healthy Nutrition: Offering cooking demonstrations and learning how to make healthy selections when eating out
  • Healthy Mindset: Stress management, goal setting and tobacco cessation

The hospital is also recognized by the American Heart Association for its dedication to strong patient outcomes.

Convenient Care, Close to Home

For many families, traveling for care can be stressful. Covenant Health Claiborne continues to expand services so patients can stay close to home while receiving advanced, reliable care. Pulmonary care is one more way the hospital is meeting that goal.

Our teams’ compassion and skill show up repeatedly in patient surveys. One patient recently shared about one of our staff, “She was outstanding in her explanation of tests and what was expected of me.” Other comments noted the “seamless process” and that they were very happy with the staff.

Whether someone is managing a chronic condition or recovering from a sudden illness, the team is ready to guide them with steady, knowledgeable support.
