DAISY Award Winner – Charity Smith

Congratulations to Charity Smith, a nurse on our pulmonary unit, for receiving a DAISY award for her top-notch care. Charity’s nominator had a sick family member at Fort Sanders Regional. She not only took the best care of her patient but also helped the patient’s family member through a difficult time. Charity showed compassion and empathy as she interacted with the patient and the patient’s family. Her nominator said, “Charity instantly became more than a nurse to us. This type of relationship is what nursing is all about, and Charity’s compassion and personal touch will always be remembered.”

Pulmonary Hypertension Center of Excellence

Fort Sander Regional’s pulmonology service line has been recognized by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association as a Center of Excellence. This means our staff have special expertise in pulmonary hypertension and have demonstrated an ability to properly diagnose and treat this complex disease.
