A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored today with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Congratulations to Erin an RN, on the Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit for being recognized with the DAISY award. Erin was nominated by a patient for the amazing care and support she provided during their hospital stay.
Erin’s Nomination
“My story is a short one. Over the span of my late wife’s seven year battle with metastatic breast cancer, I have encountered and observed many nurses across two states. I have invariably been impressed and inspired by their dedication.
However, recently, I experienced my own health issue and underwent surgery at Parkwest Medical Center. While there, I had the opportunity to meet and be cared for by Erin Winebarger, RN. I was blown away not only by her technical expertise and knowledge, but by her compassion and humanity. She talked both frankly and honestly about my surgery and recovery. She listened warmly and empathetically to my fears and concerns, especially in light of my wife’s recent passing. She talked wisely and reassuringly to my daughter, who called nervously for info concerning my condition. My daughter instantly felt a connection based on trust and professionalism.
My one regret is that I was discharged on Nurse Winebarger’s day off, preventing me from relating my feelings directly to her. Erin is a most outstanding representative of the nursing profession and her work, competence and pride speak highly of the commitment to excellent at Parkwest.”
Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues, and they are chosen by a committee at Parkwest Medical Center to receive The DAISY Award. To nominate a nurse today visit www.TreatedWell.com/DAISY.
