Oncology Outreach Services
The mission of Oncology Outreach Services at Thompson Cancer Survival Center is to coordinate targeted prevention and awareness initiatives and connect East Tennesseans with the world class cancer care offered at Thompson Cancer Survival Center – from cancer screening to treatment to social services. B. Ray Thompson founded TCSC over 40 years ago, with the goal of delivering not only the latest treatment methods and technologies available to cancer patients in East Tennessee, but also providing them with the non-medical patient support services necessary for them to be able to receive medical care.
In addition to offering the latest treatment methods, technologies, and clinical trials, Thompson provides support services funded through Thompson Cancer Survival Center Foundation for all patients:
- Nurse Navigators
- Oncology Pharmacists
- Genetic Counselors
- Dieticians
- Clinical Trial Specialists
- Social Workers
- Counselors
Community Outreach
Lack of awareness and lack of access to quality healthcare are major risk factors among impoverished and underserved communities. Thompson Cancer Survival Center seeks to overcome barriers to cancer prevention and treatment by helping patients with individual needs, sponsoring special events and participating in the Commission on Cancer.
Commission on Cancer
The Commission on Cancer (CoC) is a “consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care.”
As a part of the CoC, each year the Oncology Services Outreach Representative from TCSC collaborates with healthcare and social service providers in the East Tennessee region to implement a cancer prevention or screening initiative.
