What Is LED Light Therapy?

LED Light therapy is a safe, non-invasive and non-UV skin treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to treat various skin conditions. Exposing the skin to LED light encourages your body to produce enzymes and collagen that support the skin structure, thus producing younger, smoother looking skin. It has been found to be effective in repairing damaged skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, killing bacteria, treating acne, fading brown spots and much more.

How Does LED Light Therapy Work?

When the skin is exposed to specific wavelengths of light, it absorbs the energy and boosts cell metabolism, encouraging faster repair, regeneration and reduction in inflammation. LED light therapy uses various wavelengths that correspond to different visible colors. Each color penetrates the skin at different depths.

Blue Light Therapy

Blue light therapy affects the uppermost layer of your skin. As it penetrates into the superficial dermis, it has a calming and regulating effect on the sebaceous gland. Blue light therapy is primarily used to treat acne as it helps kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin’s surface. However, blue light therapy has also been shown to reduce inflammation and has even been used to treat sun-damaged skin.

Red Light Therapy

Red light travels further into your skin, increasing collagen production, triggering repair mechanisms and stimulating fibroblast cells to produce collagen. It increases circulation and speeds up the healing process by carrying more oxygen and nutrients to the skin. Red light therapy has been shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, heal wounds and scars, improve skin elasticity and reduce inflammation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does LED light therapy actually work?

LED light therapy has been shown to work for a variety of skin conditions and health benefits. Its success is supported by scientific studies, though results depend on the condition being treated, the type of light used, and the consistency of treatment. In-office LED light therapy uses more powerful strengths than at-home devices, which makes it more effective.

Is LED light therapy safe?

LED light therapy is safe, non toxic, non invasive and not as harsh as some topical skin treatments. Unlike tanning beds or sun exposure, LED light therapy does not emit harmful UV rays, which can cause skin cancer and premature aging.

What does LED light therapy do?

LED light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to address various skin conditions, promote healing, reduce inflammation, and support tissue repair.

Key benefits:

  • Treats acne
  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Promotes wound healing and tissue repair
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves skin texture
  • Treats sun damage
  • Manages skin conditions including psoriasis, rosacea and eczema

How long does it take for LED light therapy to work?

The time it takes for LED light therapy to show results depends on the condition being treated, the type of light used and the consistency of treatments. To see significant benefits, you typically need to have a series of in-office treatments. While some people may see changes in just a few weeks, most conditions require consistent LED light therapy for 4 to 8 weeks or more to achieve significant results. Because our in-office LED light therapy uses more powerful strengths than at-home devices, you will see faster and more noticeable improvements with the LED light therapy treatments provided at the Day Spa.
