Continuing Education Programs

Nurse Residency Program

The Nurse Residency Program at Covenant Health is a program established to support new graduate nurses (RNs) through their first year of nursing. Geared towards nurses with less than one year of acute care experience, NRP is a year-long program where we meet as a group once a month for six months. We focus on confidence building, clinical decision-making, critical thinking and leadership…just to name a few things!

We’re committed to helping you successfully make the transition from an educational setting to a fast-paced hospital environment. Every newly graduated nurse is assigned to a specific facility and unit and is automatically enrolled in the program. All you need to do is apply online for job opening(s) that interests you!

The Covenant Health Nurse Residency Program is accredited with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

High School Programs

Covenant Health believes in developing future healthcare providers, beginning as young as high school students through our Patient Care Assistant Programs.

Fort Loudoun Medical Center’s “Fort Loudoun Healing Hands” program is a state-certified Patient Care Tech Apprentice program for high school students ages 15-18 who are enrolled in healthcare courses and are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. The program allows students to gain first-hand experience by working in a variety of departments, including emergency, medical/surgical, nursing, laboratory, imaging and surgical technician.

Fort Sanders Regional, Parkwest and Roane Medical Centers also have Patient Care Support Assistant programs for high school students interested in the healthcare field. Other Covenant Health facilities will offer the program in the coming years.

In addition to our PCSA program, Covenant Health provides guest speakers, industry field experiences, job shadowing, summer employment, career exploration, clinical time and volunteer opportunities to high school students.

What Our Incredible PCSAs Have to Say

Haley P.

Through joining the PCSA program this summer, I have gained firsthand insight into what working in healthcare truly looks like. It has given me opportunities to learn new skills as well as patient care. I was able to see the teamwork and dedication behind the scenes of healthcare including administration. I have gained confidence in myself and discovered how rewarding it is to make a difference in a patient’s day, even in small ways.

Amy M.

The PCSA program has been an incredible experience for me. Getting hands-on experience in different healthcare settings has really opened my eyes to the variety of roles available. I’ve always been interested in healthcare, but this program has solidified my interest and given me a clearer direction to pursue. I feel much more confident about choosing healthcare as a future career path. The mentorship and networking opportunities have been invaluable. It’s been inspiring to see the impact healthcare professionals have on people’s lives, and I’m excited to be a part of that.

Ariel S.

As a rising senior and aspiring future healthcare professional, I came into the PCSA program with only some textbook knowledge and an eagerness to learn. I was lost in the vast number of career paths that existed in the healthcare field and desperately needed more clarity. Textbook knowledge and online research can only prepare you so much. It is extremely difficult to understand the full picture or real-life application of what you read without seeing it in-person. Through this program, I was able to connect with healthcare professionals all over the hospital, learning and understanding the role they played in providing the best quality of patient care. By the end of the summer, not only did I gain a sense of clarity for my future, but I also developed a mentorship with knowledgeable professionals. In addition, I connected with peers who are also aspiring to do great things. I have no doubt that the connections and friendships I gained through this program will guide me on a great path toward a future career in healthcare.
