Award recognizes healthcare system for telemedicine innovation and impact.
Knoxville, Tenn. – November 2022 – Covenant Health has been named a 2022 WE SEE YOU CARE Award recipient by Hicuity Health, the nation’s leading high-acuity telemedicine provider. The award recognizes Covenant Health’s commitment to telemedicine innovation and impact, including its use of provider-to-provider telemedicine in patient care. The health system was one of 10 honorees to receive the award, including three health systems, several care teams and individuals from a variety of disciplines.
In 2021, Covenant Health was the first health system in East Tennessee to provide Tele-ICU services as an extra layer of care for critically ill patients. Tele-ICU is an expansion of existing critical care services and is designed to support the bedside clinical team, ultimately improving patient outcomes and overall quality of care. A secure remote Tele-ICU operations center is staffed 24/7 with critical care nurses and physician experts who constantly monitor critical care patients to support bedside clinical teams. Tele-ICU is proven to improve patient outcomes and overall quality of care.
“Our Tele-ICU program covers 172 critical care beds, serving our patients from a local Tele-ICU command center in Knoxville. We are utilizing critical care providers who are already familiar with Covenant Health to provide evidence-based medicine for our ICU patients,” said Chris Skinner, MBA, BSN, RN-BC, vice president of clinical informatics for Covenant Health. “Tele-ICU allows our patients to stay in their home facility while still receiving the highest level of care. This innovative approach also allowed us the ability to augment care during the pandemic surges.”
The WE SEE YOU CARE Award highlights successful collaboration between facility stakeholders and Hicuity Health’s team of clinicians and colleagues who contribute to patient care. It was introduced in 2016 to acknowledge the exemplary efforts of bedside clinicians and team members from Hicuity Health partner hospitals in leveraging acute-care telemedicine to improve how care is delivered for both patients and their families.
“Partnering with Hicuity Health to bring this service to our patients has elevated not only patient care, but nursing support as well,” said Martin Gibbs, BSN, RN, CCRN-K, Tele-ICU and virtual sitter nursing program manager for Covenant Health. “During COVID, which was a trying time for all, Hicuity and Covenant Health collaborated to accommodate multiple beds, provide excellent care, reduce mortality and support struggling bedside teams. Receiving this award signifies both Covenant Health and Hicuity’s joint commitment to our community by putting the patient first and providing excellent care.”
“Hicuity Health is proud to recognize Covenant Health with a 2022 WE SEE YOU CARE Award that honors its collaborative efforts and advancement of patient care through the use of provider-to-provider telemedicine,” said Lou Silverman, CEO of Hicuity Health. “Our team supports partner hospitals and outstanding patient care by leveraging partnered staffing solutions, evidence-based practices and a proprietary workflow management platform.”
As part of the award, a donation was made to Covenant Health for its foundations and recognized at a ceremony in October.
