Some positions are eligible for a referral bonus for current employees.

Covenant Health Employee Referral Program

Covenant Health Employment Services designates certain vacant positions as eligible for Employee Referral Bonuses. When current employees refer people to these Covenant Health jobs, and the people referred are then hired into a qualifying position, the current employee may be eligible to receive a referral bonus.

Guidelines and Eligibility

Referral Guidelines for Covenant Health Jobs

  • If a candidate is submitted more than once, the first submission will be considered the lead source.
  • Employees are eligible to refer individuals who have not submitted an application for the specific position they are being referred to within the past 6 months.
  • The referral must not have been actively recruited by a Covenant Health recruiter for the position they are referred to in the last 6 months.
  • The person you refer must be employed in the referred position for a minimum of 90 days to receive the payment. The referrer MUST be a current employee of a wholly owned affiliate of Covenant Health AND be employed with Covenant Health and in good standing at the time of the referred person’s 90-day anniversary date.
  • The bonus applies only to the first person to make the referral. (For example, if five people refer the same person for a Registered Nurse candidate and that candidate accepts the job, you would get the referral payment only if you were the first person who referred the candidate.)
  • Referrals submitted after the candidate has already applied may not be eligible for the program.
  • All referrals will expire: 1) one calendar year from the date that they are received in Employment Services; or 2) if the referring employee or the referred applicant leaves employment with Covenant Health for any length of time from the time of the referral until the referred employee’s 90-day anniversary.

(Note: The bonus is available only if the referred person is in one of the professions listed.)

Which applicants are eligible to be referred as part of the Employee Referral Program?

An employee can refer an applicant who is not a current employee of a wholly owned affiliate of Covenant Health and who meets the employment requirements for a posted qualifying job (see positions listed). If the person who is being referred is a former Covenant Health employee, there must have been a 12-month break in service in order for the referral to be valid. RN’s, however, only require a 9-month break in service to be eligible. Nurse Anesthetists require a 12-month break in service to be eligible.

The following applicants are NOT eligible for referral as part of the Employee Referral Program:

A previous Covenant Health employee with less than a 12-month break in service with Covenant Health is not eligible for Employee Referral consideration. However, RN’s are exempt from this policy and only require a 9-month break in service to be eligible. Previous Covenant Health employees are always welcome to reapply with Covenant Health, but the former employee (excluding RN’s as outlined above) must have left the organization at least 12 months before the referral date for the referring employee to be eligible for a bonus.

 

Additional Details

  • All referrals will expire: 1) one calendar year from the date that they are received in Employment Services; or 2) if the referring employee or the referred applicant leaves employment with Covenant Health for any length of time from the time of the referral until the referred employee’s 90-day anniversary.
  • Temporary employees, consultants, and third-party contracted employees are not eligible to receive a referral bonus for referring someone to Covenant Health.
  • Recruiting Team Members are not eligible to receive a referral bonus for referring someone to Covenant Health.
  • Covenant Health leaders are not eligible for the Employee Referral Program bonus if the person they refer is hired to work in their department.

Payment Details

Payment of Referral Bonuses

The person who was referred and hired into a qualifying job must be employed in the position for at least 90 days. The referring employee must also still be employed with Covenant Health at the time of the 90-day anniversary date. The first referral payment will be made on the next full pay period following the 90-day anniversary.

  • Special temporary programs may be instituted at times based on emergent market needs.
  • This bonus amount is included in the employee’s taxable compensation and is subject to applicable federal income tax withholding and to employment taxes.

System-Wide Eligible Position Descriptions

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) – (Full Time Only) – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who has at least one year of CRNA experience and that CRNA is hired full-time into an open and approved Authorization to Hire (ATH), a referral payment of $25,000 will be given in increments to the referring Covenant Health employee.

The first payment of $7,500 would be given after the new CRNA has been working for 90 days; a second payment of $7,500 would be awarded to the referring employee following the new CRNA’s one-year anniversary, and a third payment of $10,000 would be awarded to the referring employee following the new CRNA’s two-year anniversary. Both the CRNA and the referring employee must be employed for the entire time between the new CRNA’s hire date and the payout date(s). Applicable tax withholds will apply. Note: leaders cannot receive the bonus for referring a new hire to their department, as these managers have recruitment as part of their job responsibilities. Effective Oct. 7, 2024.

Registered Nurse (RN)(CLIN II & Higher) – (Full Time Only) – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Registered Nurse who has at least one year of RN experience and that RN is hired full-time into an open and approved, direct patient care RN Authorization to Hire (ATH), a referral payment of $5,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee.

The first payment of $1,000 would be given after the new RN has been working for 90 days; a second payment of $1,000 would be given after the new RN has been working for 180 days, and a third payment of $3,000 would be awarded to the referring employee following the new RN’s one-year anniversary. Both the RN and the referring employee must be employed for the entire time between the new RN’s hire date and the payout date. Applicable tax withholds will apply. Note: Nursing leaders cannot receive the bonus for referring a new hire to their department, as these managers have nurse recruitment as part of their job responsibilities. Additional stipulations may apply. See HR for more details.

Effective Oct. 1, 2022

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time CST who has more than one year of surgical tech experience and that CST is hired into any open and approved CST ATH, a referral payment of $1,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 would be given after the CST has been working for 90 days; a second payment of $500 would be given after the CST has been working for 6 months. This is in accordance with employment services policies.  Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective April 22, 2024.

Ultrasound Technologist, Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Ultrasound Technician who has more than one year of required experience and that Ultrasound Technician is hired into any open and approved Ultrasound Technician ATH, a referral payment of $1,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new Ultrasound Technician’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies.  Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Medical Technologist (MT), Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Medical Technician who has more than one year of required experience and that Medical Technician is hired into any open and approved Medical Technician ATH, a referral payment of $1,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new Medical Technician’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies.  Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Medical Lab Technician who has more than one year of required experience and that Medical Lab Technician is hired into any open and approved Medical Lab Technician ATH, a referral payment of $1,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new Medical Lab Technician’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Registered Respiratory Therapist who has more than one year of required experience and that Registered Respiratory Therapist is hired into any open and approved Registered Respiratory Therapist ATH, a referral payment of $1,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new Registered Respiratory Therapist’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective: October 2, 2023

Cardiac Sonographer (Echo), Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Cardiac Sonographer who has more than one year of required experience and that Cardiac Sonographer is hired into any open and approved Cardiac Sonographer ATH, a referral payment of $1,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new Cardiac Sonographer’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective: October 2, 2023

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time LPN who has more than one year of LPN experience and that candidate is hired into any open and approved LPN ATH, the referring employee will receive a $500 referral bonus 90 days after the start date in accordance with employment services polices. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Lab Assistant, Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Lab Assistant who has more than one year of required experience and that Lab Assistant is hired into any open and approved Lab Assistant ATH, a referral payment of $750 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $375 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $375 will be given following the new Lab Assistant’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Medical Lab Assistant (MLA), Full Time Only – All Facilities

If an employee refers a full-time Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) who has more than one year of required experience and that MLA is hired into any open and approved MLA ATH, a referral payment of $1,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new Medical Lab Assistant’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Facility Specific Eligible Position Descriptions

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Full Time Only, Night Shift – Fort Loudoun Medical Center Only

If an employee refers a full-time Registered Respiratory Therapist who has more than one year of required experience and that Registered Respiratory Therapist is hired into any open and approved Registered Respiratory Therapist NIGHT SHIFT ATH, a referral payment of $2,500 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $1,250 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $1,250 will be given following the new Registered Respiratory Therapist’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective: November 14, 2025

Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) – (Full Time Only) – Thompson Oncology Group

If an employee refers a full-time Registered Nurse who has at least one year of RN experience and that RN is hired full-time into an open and approved, RN Authorization to Hire (ATH), a referral payment of $5,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee.

The first payment of $1,000 would be given after the new RN has been working for 90 days; a second payment of $1,000 would be given after the new RN has been working for 180 days, and a third payment of $3,000 would be awarded to the referring employee following the new RN’s one-year anniversary. Both the RN and the referring employee must be employed for the entire time between the new RN’s hire date and the payout date. Applicable tax withholds will apply. Note: Nursing leaders cannot receive the bonus for referring a new hire to their department, as these managers have nurse recruitment as part of their job responsibilities. *Additional stipulations may apply. Certified Surgical Tech, Full Time Only – Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center

If an employee refers a full-time CST to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center who has more than one year of surgical tech experience and that CST is hired into any open and approved CST ATH at Fort Sanders Regional, a referral payment of $5,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $1,000 would be given after the CST has been working for 90 days; a second payment of $1,000 would be given after the CST has been working for 6 months, and a third payment of $3,000 will be given after the CST meets their one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies.  Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Sterile Processing Tech, Full Time Only – Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center

If an employee refers a full-time Sterile Processing Tech at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center who has more than one year of Sterile Processing experience and is hired into any open and approved Sterile Processing Tech ATH at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, a referral payment of $500 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $250 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the start date, the second payment of $250 will be given following the new employee’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies.  Applicable tax withholds will apply.

New Graduate Registered Nurse, Full Time Only – Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center Neuroscience Department (5N)

If an employee refers a full-time New Graduate Registered Nurse and that RN is hired full-time into any open and approved RN Authorization to Hire (ATH) in the Neuroscience Department at Fort Sanders Regional, the referring employee will receive a $1,000 bonus 90 days after the start date in accordance with employment services polices. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective March 15, 2023

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Full Time Only – Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center Neuroscience Department (5N)

If an employee refers a full-time LPN who has more than one year of LPN experience and that candidate is hired into any open and approved LPN ATH in the Neuroscience Department at Fort Sanders Regional, the referring employee will receive a $1,000 bonus 90 days after the start date in accordance with employment services polices. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Full Time Only – Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center Neuroscience Department (5N)

If an employee refers a full-time CNA who has more than one year of CNA experience and that candidate is hired into any open and approved CNA ATH in the Neuroscience Department at Fort Sanders Regional, the employee will receive a $500 bonus 90 days after the start date in accordance with employment services polices. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective March 15, 2023

Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Full Time Only – Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center Neuroscience Department (5N)

If an employee refers a full-time PCA who has more than one year of PCA experience and that candidate is hired into any open and approved PCA ATH in the Neuroscience Department at Fort Sanders Regional, the employee will receive a $500 bonus 90 days after the start date in accordance with employment services polices. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective March 15, 2023

Certified Surgical Tech (CST), Full Time Only – Parkwest Medical Center

If an employee refers a full-time CST to Parkwest Medical Center who has more than one year of surgical tech experience and that CST is hired into any open and approved CST ATH at Parkwest, a referral payment of $5,000 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $1,000 would be given after the CST has been working for 90 days; a second payment of $1,000 would be given after the CST has been working for 6 months, and a third payment of $3,000 will be given after the CST meets their one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies.  Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective April 22, 2024.

Emergency Medical Technician – Claiborne Medical Center

If an employee refers a full-time Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and that candidate is hired into any open and approved Emergency Medical Technician full-time ATH in the Ambulance Services department at Claiborne Medical Center, the employee will receive a referral payment of $1,000 that will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the new employee’s start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new employee’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Paramedic – Claiborne Medical Center

If an employee refers a full-time Paramedic and that candidate is hired into any open and approved Paramedic full-time ATH in the Ambulance Services department at Claiborne Medical Center, the employee will receive a referral payment of $1,000 that will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 will be given on the paycheck following the 1st 90 days after the new employee’s start date, the second payment of $500 will be given following the new employee’s one-year anniversary. This is in accordance with employment services policies. Applicable tax withholds will apply.

Effective November 29, 2023

Clinical Field Staff Supervisor (CFSS) – HomeCare

If an employee refers a full-time Clinical Field Staff Supervisor (CFSS) who has at least one year of RN experience and that Clinical Field Staff Supervisor is hired full-time into an open and approved Authorization to Hire (ATH), a referral payment of $1,500 will be given in increments to the referring employee. The first payment of $500 would be given after the new CFSS has been working for 90 days; a second payment of $500 would be given after the new CFSS has been working for 180 days, and a third payment of $500 would be awarded to the referring employee following the new CFSS’s one-year anniversary. Both the CFSS and the referring employee must be employed for the entire time between the new hire’s date and the payout date. Applicable tax withholds will apply. Note: hiring leaders cannot receive the bonus for referring a new hire to their department, as these leaders have recruitment as part of their job responsibilities. Additional stipulations may apply.
