After rotator cuff surgery at Covenant Health‘s Parkwest Medical Center, Sharon Tharp was determined to get back to the life she loved. Through physical therapy at Covenant Health Therapy Center – Morristown, she regained her mobility and returned to the active lifestyle she loves.

A Life Interrupted by Pain

Sharon and her husband, Wayne, stay busy caring for their farm and the animals they love, including horses, cats, a goat and their two dogs, Bruce and Lucy. She also treasures spending time with her three grandchildren.

When they are not working on the farm, Sharon and Wayne enjoy showing their classic cars and taking bicycle rides together.

That active lifestyle became increasingly difficult when shoulder pain began to interfere with everyday activities.

“I couldn’t do much of anything,” Sharon said. “The pain was constant, and it made even simple things hard.”

Surgery Was Just the First Step

Sharon underwent rotator cuff surgery at Parkwest Medical Center with orthopedic surgeon Paul Becker, MD. While surgery repaired the injury, Sharon knew recovery would take time and dedication.

She began therapy at Covenant Health Therapy Center – Morristown, where she worked closely with her therapy team to restore movement and function.

Finding Encouragement Along the Way

From the start, Sharon felt supported by her therapists, Dawn Williams DPT, ATC, CLT-LANA and Douglas Murgolo, PTA.

“I absolutely love Dawn and Douglas,” Sharon said. “They made such a difference for me. They were patient, encouraging and really cared about helping me get better.”

Together, they focused on improving Sharon’s strength, flexibility and range of motion. Progress came one step at a time, but each milestone brought her closer to the activities she missed.

Dawn witnessed Sharon’s determination throughout her recovery.

“Sharon showed up every day ready to work,” said Williams, therapist at Covenant Health Therapy Center – Morristown. “She trusted the process, put in the effort and kept moving forward. It has been incredible to watch her regain her independence and confidence.”

Returning to What Matters Most

As the weeks passed, Sharon began noticing a dramatic difference. The pain that once limited her daily life began to fade, and she regained the ability to do the things she enjoys most.

“Before therapy, I didn’t think I would get back to normal,” Sharon said. “Now I can do so much more.”

Today, Sharon is back on the farm helping care for the animals, spending time with her grandchildren and enjoying adventures with Wayne. She is once again attending car shows, driving their classic cars and riding bicycles.

“I’ve come a long way,” she said. “I feel strong again.”
