The Panda™ Warmer Provides a Warm Space for Newborns
Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System has announced the acquisition of a Panda™ Warmer for newborns. The equipment is used to provide a safe, warm space for nursing staff to assess and evaluate the infant.
Warmth is important for newborns following birth, as they cannot yet regulate their body temperature. A Panda Warmer can be turned on prior to delivery and heated to the proper temperature so it is ready for the baby’s arrival.
If the baby suffers a complication, the equipment also includes an all-in-one system that has the features necessary to perform a resuscitation, including airway management, gentle ventilation and pulse oximetry.
Additionally, the Panda Warmer can record the baby’s weight, has adjustable lights for optimal lighting and uses a hands-free alarm control to help maintain a quiet environment. It is fully mobile and helps the team stabilize and transport the infant, whether from the operating room, emergency department or patient room, to the nursery without an interruption in care.
Generous Donors Provided Funds for Equipment
The equipment was purchased with funds raised at the Morristown-Hamblen Hospital Foundation’s Gala event earlier this year.
“The Morristown-Hamblen labor and delivery unit would like to say thank you to the foundation and their donors who gifted our unit this special piece of equipment,” said Amanda Demitraszek, nurse manager of the labor and delivery department at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. “We are so grateful for your generosity. We want to ensure our infants have the best chance we can give them, and the panda warmer will be used daily for our newborns.”
“Philanthropy makes a significant impact on the excellent care we provide at Covenant Health every day,” said Chip Bryant, vice president and chief philanthropy officer for Covenant Health. “The generous donors to the Gala gave from their hearts to support our smallest patients at Morristown-Hamblen and we are very grateful. Together with the philanthropic support of our community, we continue to achieve our mission of improving the quality of life through better health in East Tennessee.”
