A Calling Shaped Early in Life

Kristy’s passion for healthcare started when she was a child. Her mom worked as a pediatric oncology nurse, and Kristy saw the courage and compassion the role required. “I admired my mother for being a mom but also for having this amazing role saving lives,” she says. Those early experiences stayed with her and inspired her to pursue her career. “I knew I ultimately wanted to be a nurse practitioner.”

She began her career in gynecology oncology before moving into medical oncology. Over time, she advanced into hematology oncology as a nurse practitioner, where she found her professional home.

Leading With Expertise and Innovation

Cancer care is constantly evolving, and Kristy stays current using trusted resources like National Comprehensive Cancer Network, UpToDate, Oncology Nursing Society and Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncology. She’s especially excited about breakthroughs in immunotherapy, a type of cancer treatment that uses the body’s own immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells more effectively.

One of the most promising examples is CAR‑T cell therapy. This modifies a patient’s own immune cells so they can better recognize and destroy cancer. Unlike chemotherapy, which affects both healthy and cancerous cells, CAR‑T only targets cancer cells.

“The advancement in CAR‑T cell therapy and bispecific antibodies is exciting,” she says. These treatments offer more personalized options by targeting cancer cells with greater precision, and they can give patients renewed hope for outcomes that once seemed out of reach.”

At Covenant Health, Kristy has access to the latest evidence-based guidelines, strong clinical support and a team of experts working together to deliver the best care possible. It’s part of what makes Covenant Health the region’s choice for advanced treatment close to home.

A Personalized Approach to Every Patient

Kristy believes great cancer care begins with understanding the person behind the diagnosis. “Individualized care is important,” she says. “You have to adapt the care you provide to what works best for each person.”

That belief guides moments that stay with her — like a recent patient who almost canceled chemotherapy because they felt so sick. Kristy encouraged them to come in for a sick visit. After checking labs, she found a UTI and low electrolytes. “I treated both, and when I saw them the next week, they felt a hundred times better and were able to finish cancer treatment.”

Her approach is simple but powerful: sit down, listen and make eye contact. Ensure patients feel supported, understood and involved in their care.

A Team That Puts People First

Kristy says being part of Covenant Health means being part of a community focused on doing what’s right. “Covenant Health cares more about the community they’re serving than about money,” she says. As a not‑for‑profit health system, Covenant Health reinvests its resources back into patient care, staff support, and community programs. This is something Kristy says she feels every day in the way care is delivered.

Life Outside the Clinic

When she’s not caring for patients, Kristy enjoys reading and hiking with her husband and their dog, Benji. And for fun, she shares one surprise: “I love pickles and occasionally drink pickle juice.”
