Patients in Cumberland County can trust they’re in good hands for advanced heart procedures with Dr. Todd Justice. Dr. Justice is a board-certified interventional cardiologist and certified cardiac device specialist with Covenant Health.
“We are ready to provide an extremely high standard of care right here,” said Dr. Justice. “You don’t have to get on a plane or drive three hours to get top-notch care.”
A Passion for Cardiology
Dr. Justice joined Covenant Health’s Parkway Cardiology Associates in 2008, but his passion for cardiology began long before then. He was drawn to the field because it offered the opportunity to care for patients in many different ways.
“There is so much variety,” he said. “We see patients in clinics like family doctors. We read studies like radiologists, and we do procedures. It’s a great mix.”
Originally from eastern Kentucky, Dr. Justice felt a strong connection to East Tennessee from the start. The mountains felt like home. The chance to work alongside colleagues he respected made joining Parkway Cardiology Associates an easy decision.
What keeps him motivated after nearly two decades in practice is the opportunity to change lives.
“There is also the gratification of taking a critically ill patient, applying your skillset and seeing that patient walk out of the hospital completely restored to health,” he said. “There are few disciplines where that is the norm.”
Expanding Access to Advanced Care
Cardiovascular medicine has changed dramatically during Dr. Justice’s career. He is helping expand local access to services that can improve quality of life and even save lives. Advances in technology and techniques now allow physicians to treat patients with greater precision and effectiveness than ever before.

One area where he has developed significant expertise is cardiac device management. As a certified cardiac device specialist, Dr. Justice has advanced training in pacemakers, defibrillators and other implantable heart devices.
“Being able to deliver this type of care with a high level of expertise and safety is one of the things I am most proud of,” he said.
Today, patients at Cumberland Medical Center can receive procedures that previously required traveling outside their community. Those services include:
- Loop recorders, which help identify abnormal heart rhythms
- Pacemakers that support slow heart rates
- Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator that can protect patients who are at risk for dangerous heart rhythm disorders
“There is absolutely no need to go out of the community to get this done,” he said. “I think that takes a lot of the anxiety out of the equation for patients and families.”
Putting Patients First
At the center of Dr. Justice’s approach is a commitment to listening carefully and finding the right diagnosis.
“I’ve always felt my main job is to be a diagnostician,” he said. “Patients need their problem correctly diagnosed. Then it needs to be treated in such a way that their symptoms are alleviated with the least side effects or potential for harm that we can achieve.”
That philosophy aligns closely with Covenant Health’s focus on compassionate, patient-centered care. Dr. Justice says being part of Covenant Health allows him to focus on what matters most.
“Doctors need to be doctors. We need to focus on the patient,” he said. “If we need tools to take care of patients, Covenant makes sure we have it.”
Beyond the Office
Outside of medicine, Dr. Justice enjoys traveling with his wife and children and exploring U.S. national parks. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys duck hunting, pheasant hunting and riding dirt bikes.
Those who know him best appreciate both his adventurous side and his deep dedication to his patients and community.
