When something goes wrong inside the body, people want answers. They want clarity. And they want a surgeon they can trust. At Covenant Health Fort Loudoun, general surgeon, Benjamin Pardue, DO, brings skill, calm confidence and a commitment to each patient who comes through his door.

A man with short brown hair and a beard, wearing a white lab coat over a plaid shirt, stands in front of a plain gray background, smiling slightly at the camera.

“I enjoy getting to help people when they come in. It’s such a vulnerable moment,” Dr. Pardue says. “Patients want clarity. They want to understand what’s happening and what we’re going to do together to fix it.”

Returning Home

Dr. Pardue is a Knoxville native who is proud to call East Tennessee home. He went to high school here and earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee. After college, he spent two gap years participating in the Knoxville Fellows Program and working at Thrive Lonsdale as a cook and sports director. These experiences deepened his commitment to service.

During that time, Dr. Pardue briefly considered culinary school before ultimately choosing medicine. He went on to attend medical school in Auburn, AL, followed by five years of surgical residency training in Dallas, TX. After years of preparation, he made a decision to return home and care for the community that shaped him.

Family also played a big role in bringing him back. “My number one goal was getting back to the Knoxville area,” he says. “I grew up here, and my family is here.”

As the oldest of four brothers, Dr. Pardue values being close to family and loves his role as the “fun uncle” to his nieces and nephews. When he’s off the clock, he recharges by cooking, reading, playing soccer and gardening.

Why Dr. Pardue Chose Surgery

Both Dr. Pardue’s parents are physicians, and he grew up around the world of patient care. That exposure played a role in his decision to go to medical school, but once there, he gravitated toward surgery

“I enjoyed the hands-on nature of it and the ability to identify a problem, fix it and help patients move forward,” he says. “Surgery allows me to use both my mind and my hands, and that combination really clicked for me.”

What a General Surgeon Does

General surgery plays a vital role in everyday healthcare. General surgeons like Dr. Pardue are trained to diagnose, treat and operate on a wide range of conditions that affect the abdomen, digestive system, skin and soft tissue.

Dr. Pardue practices the full scope of general surgery at Covenant Health Fort Loudoun. His care includes both planned procedures and urgent surgery, which means patients can count on him whether a problem develops over time or happens suddenly.

A few common reasons people may be referred to a general surgeon are:

  • Hernias
  • Gallbladder problems
  • Appendix concerns
  • Colon conditions
  • Lumps or soft tissue masses
  • Wounds and infections
  • Emergency surgery needs

“A lot of people live with pain or discomfort longer than they need to,” Dr. Pardue says. “If something is bothering you or starting to interfere with your daily life, it’s worth getting checked out. You don’t have to wait until it becomes an emergency.”

Dr. Pardue’s Surgical Interests

In addition to general surgical care, Dr. Pardue has a special interest in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. This focus grew from extensive training during residency. Working in a busy cancer program, he gained a lot of experience caring for complex cases. These procedures are typically done through small incisions and are carefully planned to support safe recovery and long-term health.

Dr. Pardue also places a strong focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible. These approaches allow surgeons to treat many conditions through smaller incisions, which can mean less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery. His training includes advanced surgical techniques, including laparoscopic procedures and robotic-assisted surgery. While robotic surgery is not currently available at Covenant Health Fort Loudoun, Dr. Pardue stays engaged with advances in surgical technology and how they may support patient care in the future.

Whether he is repairing a hernia, treating gallbladder disease or responding to an emergency, Dr. Pardue works closely with his team. Together, they deliver care supported by advanced technology, strong clinical systems and a shared commitment to putting patients first.
