Meet Radiologist, Dr. Margaret Brown with LeConte’s Comprehensive Breast Center

Patients often meet Margaret O’Neill Brown, M.D. at a moment that feels uncertain. She understands that deeply. “It’s scary to talk about a problem with your breast,” she says. “People worry about the cost and what we might find. But we’re here to help them through every step.”
Dr. Brown’s steady, compassionate voice has become one of the greatest strengths of Covenant Health’s LeConte Comprehensive Breast Center. Dr. Brown is a breast imaging radiologist who has devoted her entire career to helping women get clear answers early. “Most women in America who get breast cancer survive,” she explains. “Catching it early changes everything.”
A Calling Rooted in Connection
Dr. Brown’s path to breast imaging wasn’t planned. Early in her training, she discovered she loved the blend of problem solving, technology and personal connection that breast imaging offers. She likes talking to patients. She likes helping them understand what is happening. And she likes being part of a team that works hard to get women the care they need as quickly and comfortably as possible.
“This is all I do,” she says. “I have focused my entire career on breast imaging so that women in our community get quick, accurate answers after breast exams.”
Expanding Services and Impact
Since Dr. Brown joined the LeConte Comprehensive Breast Center, she has helped shape its growth and direction. She noticed early that the center’s volume was rising fast, a clear sign of community need.
Since being on the team, she has supported major improvements, including:
- Additional technologists trained in both mammography and ultrasound
- MRI guided breast biopsies
- Upgraded MRI technology
“ABUS has been huge for us,” she says. “It helps us find cancers we may not see on other tests, and it’s faster and easier on patients.”
She’s also proud that LeConte Comprehensive Breast Center is one of the few places in the region offering MRI guided breast biopsies. In many other communities, patients would have to travel to larger cities to receive this kind of care.
Meeting Women Where They Are
Dr. Brown sees every patient as a whole person, someone with fears, responsibilities and a life outside the exam room. She is honest about the emotional weight that breast imaging can carry. “People are only human,” she says. “They’re afraid of bills; afraid of bad news. You can’t blame anyone for that.”
She works hard to break those barriers by explaining every step in clear, simple language. She also champions programs like Paint the Mountains Pink, which helps women access screenings and follow up care. “The more attention Paint the Mountains Pink gets, the more women we can help,” she says.
