Introducing Call Ahead for Emergency Care: Your Time Matters 

At Covenant Health, we know that when you need emergency care, every minute counts. That’s why we have introduced Call Ahead for Emergency Care, a service designed to make your Emergency Department visit more convenient when your condition is not life-threatening. 

How It Works 

If you have symptoms that require urgent attention but are not life-threatening, call 865-374-GOER (4637) before heading to the hospital. Our team will confirm your symptoms and add you to the call-ahead waiting list to streamline your arrival and care.  

Steps to use Call Ahead

  1. Call 865-374-GOER (4637) 
  2. Confirm your symptoms are non-life-threatening 
  3. Head to your nearest Covenant Health Emergency Department

This service is available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at all Covenant Health ER locations. 

When to Use Call-Ahead 

Non-life-threatening but requires immediate care such as: 

  • Allergies   
  • Asthma  
  • Cough  
  • Ear pain  
  • Fever below 101° F  
  • Flu 
  • Minor burn  
  • Minor injury, e.g. Sprained ankle  
  • Rash or skin irritation 
  • Simple laceration 
  • Sinus infection  
  • Sore throat  
  • Strep throat  
  • Urinary tract infection  
  • Vomiting and diarrhea 

When NOT to Use Call-Ahead 

Life-threatening and requires immediate care:  

  • Abdominal pain  
  • Bleeding or sharp abdominal pains when pregnant  
  • Bleeding that will not stop  
  • Broken bones or major fracture  
  • Chest pain  
  • Difficulty breathing   
  • Excruciating pain  
  • Extensive cut or laceration  
  • Fainting or head injury  
  • Fever above 102° F  
  • Loss of consciousness or disorientation  
  • Loss or change in vision  
  • Seizure  
  • Serious burn  
  • Severe allergic reactions  
  • Snake bite  
  • Spinal injury  
  • Stroke, numbness and/or facial drooping  
  • Vomiting or coughing up blood
