Dr. David Penberthy is a board-certified radiation oncologist with more than 25 years of experience in cancer care. Now serving as the Executive Medical Director of the Oncology Service Line at Covenant Health, he brings a unique blend of medical expertise, engineering insight, and military discipline to his leadership and patient care. Dr. Penberthy began his career in the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon after completing medical school and an internship in neurosurgery, experiences that strengthened his commitment to precision, teamwork, and compassionate care. Inspired by his mother’s cancer journey, he pursued radiation oncology, appreciating the field’s powerful combination of advanced technology and meaningful patient impact. Today, he is dedicated to delivering world-class oncology services to the East Tennessee community and ensuring that every patient receives focused, personalized, and expertly coordinated care.
