Speech and Language Therapy Services at Covenant Health

If you don’t fully grasp the role of a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)—you’re not alone.

SLPs are accustomed to explaining their wide scope of practice in targeting the speech, language, cognition and swallowing skills of those in need.

While SLPs are skilled in working on the speech skills of those who have need, they’re also qualified experts in addressing issues with swallowing function  targeting language and cognitive issues in stroke recovery, and in improving skills in memory and thinking.

What Skills Are Speech and Language Pathologists Able to Evaluate and Treat?

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are skilled therapists who often work alongside physical and occupational therapists to create and provide comprehensive therapy and rehabilitation plans to those in need.

Treatments & Services

Verbal and Written Expression

Patients with verbal and written language disorder and specific reading comprehension deficit struggle with understanding and/or expressing language often in both oral and written forms. These individuals often exhibit specific language impairment related to deficits in semantic processing and syntactic processing.

Auditory and Reading Comprehension

Reading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it, and understand its meaning. Auditory processing is the ability to process what other people are saying.

At Covenant Health, our team of dedicated speech therapists draw from their extensive experience and utilize the latest techniques to achieve maximum patient function.

Reasoning, Memory, Attention and Concentration Skills

Our SLPs are highly skilled at evaluating, creating, and administering customized, comprehensive treatment plans to patients with a wide variety of issues and recovery needs.

Tumor and Cancer Rehabilitation

SLPs regularly work with patients recovering from surgery of the mouth, throat, lungs or face.

Adult Neurological Rehabilitation

At Covenant Health our SLPs work with patients recovering from strokes, and are invaluable in the care of people coping with memory loss or cognitive decline due to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease or other types of dementia.

Swallowing Disorders

SLPs are skilled at assessing and treating swallowing disorders, which are very prevalent in the older adult population and can present significant barriers to safety, wellness and overall quality of life if not addressed.
