What is neurological rehabilitation?

Neurological rehabilitation is a doctor-supervised program designed for people with diseases, trauma, or disorders of the nervous system. The goal of neurological rehabilitation is to help the patient return to the highest level of function and independence possible, while improving the overall quality of life — physically, emotionally, and socially.

Covenant Therapy Centers offer treatment for many types of neurological patients, young and old. These patients may have had or may be experiencing a stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, ataxia, balance disorders, and other conditions.

Neurological rehabilitation may consist of all three disciplines:

Each discipline concentrates on specific deficits pertaining to its field. For example, physical therapy may focus on lower extremity strength, balance, and walking. Occupational therapy incorporates bathing, dressing, and return of the upper extremity (arm and hand movements). Speech therapy may focus on speech, swallowing and cognitive therapy.

Whatever the deficits, a plan of care is established for the specific needs of each individual patient, taking into account his or her strengths, weaknesses, and personal goals. It is important for the patient to work on specific goals so that therapy can also be fun and the patient is motivated to get better.

Covenant Therapy Centers accept most insurance and managed care plans. For questions or information about the clinic nearest you call 865-541-4500.
