A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored recently with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days.

Congratulations to Monica, a nurse in Surgery, for being recognized with the DAISY award. Monica was nominated by a patient’s family when she was working night shift on 5 Riverstone. Read her nomination below:

“My husband came to Parkwest with a pulmonary embolism. All of the staff were very attentive during our stay at the hospital but our night nurse, Monica was incredible. It was such a pleasure and such a relief to have been given a bright-spirited nurse on our side. Her enthusiasm helped significantly ease our anxiety, stress and concerns. She was intelligent and had a friendly demeanor. She effortlessly and effectively delivered information to us along the way. I always appreciated that she would take her time to ensure we were satisfied with understanding the information. She brought humor and had a vibrant personality. She brought joy to our room many times while things felt heavy and we were scared. She has truly been a remarkable support to us and always ensured we were both as comfortable as possible all of the time. My husband and I want to thank Monica by nominating her with a DAISY Award.”
