Isaiah Springer never expected his life to change in an instant. But after a serious dirt bike accident, he was left with life-threatening injuries and a discouraging prognosis for recovery. Despite the odds, he began a long and difficult journey toward healing with Covenant Health Therapy Center – West Knoxville, department of Covenant Health Parkwest. Here, he found a therapy team that supported him, encouraged him and helped him stay hopeful during one of the hardest times in his life.

Isaiah’s Life-Changing Accident
Isaiah grew up in the Hardin Valley area. He loves music, audiobooks and spending time with his family and dogs. He is also an active member of Aero Hawks, his school’s competitive rocket club.
On March 13, 2024, Isaiah was riding his dirt bike when he collided face-first with a brick mailbox. The accident caused severe injuries that left him fighting for his life. He suffered a brachial plexus injury, several broken bones and permanent vision loss.
“I broke every bone in my face. No one thought I would survive,” he said. “But I did.”
The sudden loss of his vision was one of the hardest parts of his recovery. “Losing my sight was really hard,” Isaiah said. “But I tried to stay positive. I didn’t want to give up. I wanted to move forward and reach the top again.”
Beginning the Climb Back

In the summer of 2024, Isaiah began outpatient therapy at Covenant Health. He went through speech therapy to regain his voice and physical therapy to rebuild balance, strength and mobility. Today, he continues occupational therapy to improve the use of his right arm and build the skills he needs for daily life.
His therapy team played a major role in his progress. Isaiah formed a close bond with his therapists and credits them for helping him regain movement in his right arm.
Mikayla Alissandrello, MOT, OTR/L, CLT, one of his occupational therapists, remembers how far he has come. “When I started working with Isaiah, he had very limited use of his right arm due to multiple fractures and a brachial plexus injury with significant nerve damage. He had pain, poor sensation, and trouble lifting his arm or holding small objects. Today, he can lift his arm overhead, carry heavier items, and use his right hand to feed himself and handle things like buttons and zippers. His progress has been amazing!”
Isaiah expressed his appreciation for his therapists, sharing, “They treated me like family, not a patient. They were welcoming, encouraging and supportive.”
Working with him has also made an impact on our team. “Seeing Isaiah’s resilience has been inspiring,” Mikayla added. “He brings a positive spirit into every session. His determination and humor remind me how powerful a strong mindset can be. My day always gets brighter when he walks in.”

How Therapy Changed His Life
Isaiah said therapy has helped him heal in more ways than one. “I can’t imagine where I’d be without therapy,” he shared. Regaining movement in his arm was a major milestone, but the impact was deeper. “They didn’t just help me move my arm again,” Isaiah said. “They helped give me a new outlook on life.”
He is now learning braille, using his computer and becoming more independent in everyday tasks. His family has supported him every step of the way, and he says their encouragement has meant everything.
Therapy You Can Trust
Isaiah continues to make progress, and he encourages others to seek care at Covenant Health. His journey shows what advanced therapy services and unwavering determination can achieve.
